Why health insurance should be one resolution you keep

Forgotten about those New Year’s resolutions already? You’re not alone! We explain why health insurance should be the one goal you keep for 2023 – and how you can get cover for a limited time even if you have pre-existing medical condition/s*.

Make health insurance a priority this year

Most of us quickly lose motivation when it comes to lofty year-ahead goals (and there’s plenty of research to prove it).

Instead of aiming to hit the gym, or finally do that bungy jump, obtaining health insurance gives the certainty of knowing that in 2023 you can access the care you need, when you need it.

With health insurance, you and your whānau can get back to living the life you love, faster.

Public or private care

Health insurance is particularly beneficial if you need specialist treatment. While you can access the same standards of care in the public system, there are usually long waitlists.

Our public health system is under significant pressure. COVID and staffing shortages are compounding these issues.

It’s also a sensible idea to add your children to your policy, whatever their age. While GP visits are free for children aged 13 years and under, there are also similar waitlists to access publicly funded specialists.

Pre-existing conditions

Pre-existing conditions are important when it comes to your health insurance. These are any medical conditions that you already have. Your insurance provider will ask you to declare any pre-existing conditions on the paperwork when you apply for a policy.

Depending on the company, and the policy type, they may (or may not) choose to cover treatment for these conditions. You may also incur extra costs if they do so.

NIB special offer – cover for pre-existing conditions

For a limited time, NIB is offering new clients signing-up to their Ultimate Health and Ultimate Health Max plan full health insurance at standard prices – with cover for pre-existing conditions once you’ve held the policy for three years.*

Usually this type of provision incurs extra fees, so we encourage you to chat to one of our experts to see how you could benefit.

Make sure you do so before 28 February 2023, when the offer expires.

The sooner, the better

Obtaining a policy when you’re going about living life as usual means you’ll have far fewer worries should something occur, and it’s needed. What could be a better resolution to start 2023 than that?!

* NIB Terms & Conditions apply.
